A downloadable game for Windows

Race Engineer is a free single-player motorsport game about the work around the driving.

You are the technical director of Apex Workshop. Sana Malik drives the Meridian Cup car while you decide what to test, what to fit, how much fuel to carry, and when to change the plan.

Each of the eight race weekends starts in the workshop. You get five days to inspect the car, order parts, install or service components, work on a setup, and develop a prototype. You cannot afford or fit everything, so you have to decide what matters before the car goes out.

The same car state follows you through practice, qualifying, and the race. Fuel adds weight and burns with engine work. Tire sets keep their wear and temperature. Engine and brake heat affect performance. Seven components lose condition through use, heat, and contact. Parts change the underlying car, not a hidden rating.

During races you work from the pit wall. Follow the six-car timing screen, switch the live camera, watch the weather and telemetry, respond to Sana's radio calls, issue driver orders, and choose the next tire set. You can pause or run the simulation at 1x, 2x, 4x, or 8x.

What is in v1.0

  • An eight-weekend Meridian Cup career
  • Rookie, Club, and Pro difficulty
  • Practice, qualifying, and six-car races
  • Fuel planning, named tire sets, heat, wear, and component condition
  • Seven part areas where every option changes the car and has a downside
  • Deliveries, installation, servicing, and R&D
  • Dry, rain-arriving, and clearing weekends
  • Driver orders: Hold pace, Push, Protect tires, Save fuel, and Cool car
  • Synchronized replay and telemetry after each session
  • Optional guidance during the opening weekend
  • Cosmetic choices for the Meridian
  • Manual driving in optional shakedowns and Sandbox
  • Four cars and four circuits in Sandbox

Career never requires manual driving. If you would rather drive, the shakedown and Sandbox modes use the same vehicle simulation and recording tools.

Current scope

This is a focused one-car, one-driver career with eight authored weekends. It does not include multiplayer, staff hiring, sponsors, race refueling, or an endless procedural career.

Kerbs count as track through their outside edge.

Controls

Use the mouse, keyboard, or an Xbox-style gamepad for the menus and pit wall. Arrow keys or the left stick navigate, Enter or A selects, and Escape or B goes back.

For optional manual driving, use WASD or the arrow keys, or the left stick with RT and LT. Gears are automatic. C changes camera and Space pauses.

Saves and installation

v1.0 starts a new career and does not overwrite v0.1 files. Compatible old runs, setups, and career history remain available through the read-only Legacy Archive.

Windows 64-bit. Download the ZIP, extract it, and run RaceEngineer.exe. Windows may show an unknown-publisher warning because the game is not code-signed.

Development disclosure

I used generative AI throughout development for code, testing, and editing. ImageGen was used for the app icon, store cover, and three environment textures: foliage, grass, and asphalt. The cars and track layouts are original assets made for this game. Every store screenshot comes from the Windows build.
